President Trump fired Acting Attorney General Sally Yates Monday night, after Yates ordered Justice Department lawyers Monday not to defend his immigration order temporarily banning entry into the United States for citizens of seven Muslim - majority countries and refugees from around the world. In a press release, the White House said Yates had “betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States.” The White House has named Dana Boente , U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, as acting attorney general. Boente told The Washington Post that he will agree to enforce the immigration order. Welcome to Ethiopia – Home to Tangible and Intangible Heritages

Image
(Sebetu Fejo : ENA ) Ethiopia, one of the two African countries which have never been colonized, owns a proud history of African heritage and considered as the origin of mankind. As Ethiopia is a country endowed with both tangible and intangible heritages including tantalizing landscapes with immense potentials for investment, this is a good opportunity since t will give the participants to visit cultural, historic and natural heritages of Ethiopia. Two of Ethiopia’s intangible heritages, the commemoration of the finding of the True Cross, Meskel festival, and Fiche Chamballala, New Year of the Sidama people, have so far inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In addition, Ethiopia has already submitted the study findings of three intangible cultural heritages to UNESCO for registration, including the Gada system ,   Timket (Ethiopian Epiphany)  and  Shadey/Ashenda , a traditional celebration....

How to Improve Yourself

Let each man learn to know himself; To gain that knowledge let him labor To improve those failings in himself Which he condemns so in his neighbor. How lenient our own faults we view, And conscience's voice adeptly smother; Yet, oh, how harshly we review The selfsame failings in another! And if you meet an erring one Whose deeds are blamable and thoughtless, Consider, ere you cast the stone, If you yourself are pure and faultless. Oh, list to that small voice within, Whose whisperings oft make men confounded, And trumpet not another's sin; You'd blush deep if your own were sounded. And in self-judgment if you find Your deeds to others are superior, To you has Providence been kind, As you should be to those inferior. Example sheds a genial ray ~  Unknown

I was sitting on a bench   When I noticed a young mother with two children who were small. The youngest one was whining, "Pick me up," I heard him beg, but the mother's face grew angry as the child clung to her leg. "Don't hang on to me," she shouted, as she pushed his hands away. I wish I'd had the courage to go up to her and say: The time will come too quickly when those little arms that tug, Won't ask for you to hold them or won't freely give a hug. The day will sneak up subtly just as it did with me, When you can't recall the last time that your child sat on your knee. Like those sacred, pre-dawn feedings when we cherished time alone... Our babies grow and leave behind those special times we've known. So when your child comes to you with a book that you can share, Or asks that you would tuck him in and help him say his prayer... When he comes to sit and chat or would like to take a walk, B...

I Have Learned (by Andy Rooney)

Image
I’ve Learned… That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person. I’ve Learned… That when you’re in love, it shows. I’ve Learned… That just one person saying to me, “You’ve made my day!” makes my day. I’ve Learned… That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world. I’ve Learned… That being kind is more important than being right. I’ve Learned… That you should never say no to a gift from a child. I’ve Learned… That I can always pray for someone when I don’t have the strength to help him in some other way. I’ve Learned… That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with. I’ve Learned… That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand. I’ve Learned… That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult. I’ve Learned… That li...

BREAKING: Pres. Trump Deletes Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Rights From Whitehouse Website

Image
During Barack Obama’s presidency, if you typed whitehouse.gov/lgbt into your browser, you reached a page highlighting the administration’s victories and policy changes regarding LGBT rights. It outlined historic court victories and even featured campaigns like the It Gets Better Project to help LGBT youth. Today, however -- just hours after President Donald J. Trump took the oath of office as the United States’ 45th president -- if you type in whitehouse.gov/lgbt, you are redirected to a new “transitionsplash” page. Source: The Independent The new page simply invites people to “sign up for updates from President Donald J. Trump.” It makes no mention of LGBT rights. In fact, it appears the White House’s LGBT rights feed has disappeared completely. Vice President Mike Pence is, of course, a highly controversial figure among the LGBT community. He publicly opposed the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. He famously voted against The Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would ...

Donald Trump hosted the most embarrassing inauguration concert in American history | The Independent

While Beyonce and Stevie Wonder performed for Barack Obama, Trump couldn’t swing a cat without hitting three cover bands and Angelina Jolie’s dad Let’s call a spade a spade. It surely says something about the new era we have entered into when the biggest celebrity at President Donald Trump ’s inauguration was the President himself. I know it's not the most pressing subject to write about, given the pending executive orders from a Republican administration which threaten to decimate progress as we know it. But readers can satisfy themselves on two points: the performance schedule is at least a more worthy talking point than Kellyanne Conway’s Civil War jacket , and Trump was no doubt irritated by the C-list line-up. President Trump – vain, narcissistic, self-obsessed – has long been ingratiated with and validated by celebrity culture. He could not have failed to miss the sparkle and magic that an A-list show provides. It was a grey, rainy day in Washington DC and the celebriti...

ANALYSIS: The Big Storylines to Watch on Trump's Inauguration Day (and Beyond) | ABC News

Image
There will be fewer balls (three, down from Obama’s 10), fewer celebrities (no BeyoncĂ© or Jessica Simpson ), fewer members of Congress (John Lewis started something) and almost certainly dramatically fewer people on hand to watch (Obama set the record in 2009: 1.8 million). Yet a day marked by traditions and pageantry, with minute details dictated by the Constitution, will come with dramatic stakes for a nation still divided by an ugly presidential campaign and its aftermath. The centerpiece will be an inaugural address that aides say will be brief, but also "beautiful." Here are some of the big themes to watch with the 58th Presidential Inauguration, which will install the 45th President of the United States: NEW DAWN This is a pivot point in American history, and it’s a clean break that might have a messy aftermath. This change of administrations is more dramatic in part because it marks shifts that are simultaneously cultural, political and personal. The contrasts ...

From Russia with love: A $10,000 Trump coin | CNN

Image
Moscow (CNN) — Money, the saying goes, can't buy love. But $10,000 will buy you the perfect Donald Trump inauguration keepsake -- a coin with the words "In Trump we trust." It's the handiwork of a Russian mining company because, as its sales manager put it, "We see our mission as immortalizing in metal the bright events of history and modernity, not only in our country but of the whole world." In other words, they really, really love Trump. The commemorative coin was created by Art Grani. It features the face of Trump on one side and the Statue of Liberty on the other. Only 45 exist: 25 silver coins, 5 gold and 15 that are silver and gold. "The inauguration of Donald Trump will be a special event in the history of the world; that's why we have done a collection," sales manager Kristina Glinina told CNN from the factory site in Chelyabinsk region, about 650 miles east of Moscow. The coins, the company says, are the perfect "unique...
